World Environment Day 2025 at Mbeya Cement Company Ltd

In celebration of World Environment Day 2025, Mbeya Cement Company Ltd proudly joined the global movement under the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution” by spearheading a series of impactful, community-focused initiatives aimed at raising awareness and driving action toward a more sustainable future. This year’s activities were designed to engage employees, local communities, and stakeholders in a meaningful dialogue around environmental responsibility.

As part of our internal awareness campaign, employees expressed their commitment through creative artwork, powerfully interpreting the message of ending plastic pollution and illustrating their personal vision of a cleaner planet. In a further demonstration of commitment, both staff and community members participated in a “Pledging for the Planet” initiative—setting an ambitious goal to reduce single-use plastic consumption by 80% by December 2026. Each pledge was accompanied by the signing of a formal declaration, reinforcing accountability and shared responsibility.

To promote practical change, we distributed eco-friendly, bone-made reusable cups as sustainable alternatives to single-use plastic products, encouraging a shift in daily habits. Additionally, participants were offered fresh apples as a symbol of health, conscious living, and harmony with nature.

A highlight of the celebration was our collaborative community clean-up campaign at Songwe Market, organized in partnership with Songwe villagers and local market vendors. This initiative not only improved the immediate environment but also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of grassroots participation in environmental protection.

We were honoured by the presence of representatives from local authorities, including the Environmental Officer from Mbeya Municipal Council and the Health Officer from Songwe District, whose support emphasized the critical role of public-private partnerships in advancing environmental stewardship.
